Transcontinental to Close Winnipeg Plant

Transcontinental will close a plant in Winnipeg, Manitoba, in March 2005 and consolidate its operations at other facilities in Canada, the company said yesterday.

Operations at the plant, which produces fliers, catalogs and inserts, will transfer to Transcontinental plants in Calgary, Alberta, and Brampton, Ontario. About 150 workers will be laid off.

Some equipment will be moved to another Transcontinental site in Winnipeg. Competition in the print marketplace in Canada is forcing Transcontinental to consolidate operations, the Montreal company said.
