Too Often We Wait for Things to Change on Their Own

I read Tad Clarke’s editorial (“DM News’ Unsung Hero,” May 10) about the life and passing of executive editor Pat Honan. I was touched at the feelings expressed and had to pause at the overwhelming reality of our mortality.

In two weeks I will turn 49, but still consider myself to be “young.” I have been stressing over my career standing and debating pursuing new opportunities for the past six months. I have the gut feeling that if things don’t work out for me in my current situation, I can always try another opportunity to finally find the right company/outlook and fortune.

Too often we sit back and wait for things to change on their own, hoping the path will be made crystal clear with gold-plated invitations. I think it’s time we all realized that life waits for no one – especially me!

Thank you for the insights caused by the kind words presented today. Pat sounds like someone I would have enjoyed meeting and getting to know. Pat sounds a lot like me.

Here’s looking forward to new opportunities and the guts to pursue them.
