Ticketmaster to Buy Evite.com

Entertainment ticket merchant Ticketmaster has agreed to buy online event planning service Evite.com.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Ticketmaster hopes to increase sales by leveraging event tickets through Evite, which is visited by about 1 million unique users per month.

“Evite.com's active members are looking for a free and convenient way to organize events and activities,” Ticketmaster president/CEO John Pleasants said.

Ticketmaster operates event guide Citysearch.com. The combination of Evite.com and Ticketmaster results in a service that allows users to search online by region for information about entertainment options, invite friends and buy tickets.

In addition to its online invitation service, Evite offers reminder, polling, payment and collection services as well as restaurant and concert listings.

Evite slashed its marketing and business development departments last year, cutting 42 of 69 positions.

“This combination will enhance our users' online experience,” Evite Inc. CEO Josh Silverman said.

Evite operations will be relocated to the Citysearch office in Pasadena, CA.
