The third coming: All hail the iPad3?

The Internet is abuzz. As of 11 a.m., there were 2,465 news items and counting related to the iPad3. Apple is unveiling (cue celestial harp music) its third generation tablet at a launch event in San Francisco on March 7 and people literally do not know what to do with themselves.

So what new features are going to be blowing our collective minds?

Well, first off, it’s possible Apple’s newest tablet won’t even be called the “iPad 3.” Reports all over the net are speculating the iPad might be named “iPad HD” to reflect the possible inclusion of a high-definition display.

What else can we likely expect from the iPad3/HD? Improved speed, 4G wireless on Verizon and AT&T and Siri technology, which means even more people will look borderline nuts as they have conversations with the virtual chick that lives inside their electronic devices.

But the added bells and whistles reportedly won’t cause the price to go up, according to The Los Angeles Times. Apple’s planning to keep its price point stable at $499 for the 16GB Wi-Fi-only device.

There’s no doubt Apple is going to sell absolute boatloads of their new tablet. CNN reported Apple sold almost 15.5 million iPads in its last quarter and I’m sure its tablet market share, now said to be at 59%, will only grow.

The reaction in the Twitter-sphere has been mixed, with some impressed and others cynical.

@NDTVGadgets It’s almost time! Apple online stores go down worldwide. http://ndtv.in/xa0IBZ #iPad3 #iPadHD #AppleTV

@funnyordie: The iPad HD is going to revolutionize the way you play pointless games while pooping.
