Telewebbers on the Rise

The number of people who watch TV and simultaneously go online has reached 44 million this year, up from 27 million in 1999, according to a survey of 40,000 households released last week by Gartner Group Inc.’s Dataquest division. By year’s end, “telewebbers” are projected to number 52 million. Dataquest said the growth indicates these individuals are prime candidates to be early adopters of interactive programming through a single device. In a related finding, 60 percent of telewebbers have gone online this year at least occasionally to get information on a product they saw advertised on TV — up from 44 percent in 1999.
