TeleTech Gains Australian Telecom Contract

Teleservices firm TeleTech Holdings won a contract yesterday to perform inbound call center management support for MobileNet, the wireless division of Australian telecom giant Telstra.

TeleTech's Asia-Pacific division will provide sales, billing, customer service and live messaging for MobileNet's wireless products. The dollar value of the contract was not disclosed.

The teleservices agency will assume management of MobileNet's call center in the La Trobe Valley in Australia's Victoria province. The center launched earlier in November with 100 staffers and will increase to 400 over the next six months.

Telstra has had a five-year relationship with TeleTech Holdings. The new contract for Telstra's wireless network expands that relationship, Telstra said.

TeleTech's Asia-Pacific division has locations in Sydney, Canberra and Newcastle, Australia, and Auckland, New Zealand, as well as Hong Kong and Singapore. The division employs about 3,000 people.

Other TeleTech clients in the region include Australian airline Qantas Airways and the Philippines Long Distance Co. TeleTech, based in Denver, has operations in 11 countries and employs 23,000 in 46 contact centers worldwide.
