TeleTech Holdings has entered the Philippines with a contract to operate call centers for the Asia-Pacific archipelago's largest telecommunications provider.
Philippines Long Distance Co., the nation's second-largest company, will fund and build contact centers in the capital of Manila to be run by TeleTech, a teleservices agency. TeleTech will run the centers for the telecommunications provider and use its capabilities to offer outsourced English-language customer relationship management services to other companies.
Services will be offered to clients in the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and other English-speaking areas, TeleTech said. The company said it expects the first center to open with 500 workstations in the fourth quarter of this year.
The partnership with Philippines Long Distance gives TeleTech access to a fiber-optic telecommunications network that spans eight nations. TeleTech also will use Philippines Long Distance's data center capabilities to serve clients.
TeleTech said its clients are growing more interested in using labor markets abroad for teleservices. The company said it has had success with such efforts in Canada and Mexico.
Further details of the agreement were not disclosed.
In early August, TeleTech signed a five-year contract to provide teleservices to Brazil's federal telecommunications regulator, Anatel.
Denver-based TeleTech has locations in 11 countries. It has 23,000 employees and operates 43 contact centers, 26 of them outside the United States.
