Team building helps create a first-rate marketing culture

Building a positive and productive internal culture is critical in the marketing services sector. Here are three things to consider when developing team-building exercises to cultivate a top-notch internal culture and differentiate your company from the competition:

Look at your business principles: Develop team-building exercises that reflect these core principles: chemistry, creativity, and carefulness (e.g., attention to detail). Whether it’s a monthly team-bonding trip (chemistry), a team collaboration and brainstorming session (creativity), or a seminar on enhancing client communications (carefulness).

See yourself as a mentor: Put your employees in the best position possible for career advancement. When introducing a new team-building exercise ask: “Does this exercise help develop the skill-set of my staff and put them in a position to advance their career?” Our “Meet the Media” monthly sessions, for example, are geared toward helping staff members engage with members of the press, ask questions, and gain pitching advice and tips.

Make sure clients benefit: When developing a team-building exercise another question to ask: “Is this going to improve the service we provide to our clients?” If the answer is “no” or “maybe,” think twice before introducing it. N6A uses exercises that have a positive impact on client service by rewarding work on client accounts; for instance, “Team of the Month” or “Result of the Week” for the staff member who achieves top results on an account. Customize exercises by the type of marketing provided.
