Target’s holiday promotions focus on mobile

Target has launched a slew of holiday promotions and tools for the season. The retail giant has revamped its mobile and social offerings and is also running a sweepstakes.

This year Target made many tools available through its mobile site including checklists, its Merry Planner Calendar, Perfect Gift Pairings, Target Christmas Videos and Gift Finder. Users can also opt-in for holiday-planning text alerts. Sarah Boehle, a spokesperson for Target, said the mobile channel is becoming increasingly important for the retailer around the holidays.

Users can also manage gift registries and TargetLists — essentially a general wish list — through the mobile Web. Boehl said that this feature will be available on the Target app for the iPhone later in December.

Web users can also opt-in for a “Daily Deals” e-mail or text by visiting dailydeals.target.com. Target also has a Twitter page, Twitter.com/targetdailydeal, where they can receive daily deal updates.

On Black Friday, Target also gave away a $10 gift card to every consumer that spent $100 or more.

“Our digital strategy around the holidays is to make the shopping experience more convenient for our guests,” Boehle said. “We hope these tools will make that experience easier.”

Target also ran a sweepstakes for the season to engage customers. The Give and Get Sweepstakes ran from November 29 until December 5. Users could enter online for a chance to win $10,000 for themselves and $10,000 for a school of their choice. To enter, users entered their name, home address and e-mail address. They also had the option to opt out of receiving e-mail offers, exclusives and promotions.

Boehle wouldn’t say whether this was a specific push to grow Target’s e-mail database. She said, “community giving is a top priority for Target.” She also said that Target doesn’t disclose its agency partnerships.

The sweepstakes was promoted through Target.com.
