Mass merchandiser Target Corp. will add Visa USA's Visa Payment Authentication solution for online shopping at target.com this fall.
Visa cardholders can enroll in the program through participating banks. Registered cardholders will be asked to verify their identity by entering a password when buying on target.com.
The deal comes a month after Target, Minneapolis, announced plans to become the first major U.S. retailer to issue Visa smart cards, which are electronic payment products that are embedded with microchips.
