Target Breaks Sweepstakes With AOL

Continuing a two-year marketing relationship, Target Stores has begun its Summer Shopping Spree Sweepstakes with America Online Inc.

Consumers who enroll as AOL members using the Internet service provider's CD-ROMs at participating Target stores may win a $1,000 shopping spree. Consumers also can sign up for the AOL service online at target.com.

Running through Aug. 10, the sweepstakes will result in 500 winners who each get a $1,000 Target GiftCard for use at Target or SuperTarget stores or target.com. Winners will be chosen in a random drawing on or around Aug. 24.

According to Target, the sweepstakes is part of a joint effort that also promotes target.com to users of America Online brands. In essence, it is a new way to bring in more customers across channels for the nation's No. 2 discount retailer after Wal-Mart Stores Inc.

Based in Minneapolis, Target has 1,081 stores in 47 states. Its partner in this sweepstakes, Dulles,VA-based America Online, is the No. 1 ISP and is owned by media and entertainment giant AOL Time Warner Inc.
