Survey: Web's More Trusted Than Phone

Market Facts Interactive has released the results of a Web survey that showed people are more comfortable providing credit card numbers and other personal information over the Internet than by telephone.

Fifty-six percent of the 1,823 respondents said they are “comfortable” or “somewhat comfortable” providing credit card information online versus 43 percent by telephone. Forty percent of those surveyed said they were comfortable or somewhat comfortable providing personal information such as health, family history and income via the Web versus 32 percent by telephone.

In other findings, 60 percent of those surveyed said privacy statements make them more comfortable at sites.
