Survey: Real-Time Analytics Used More

Nearly half of businesses use real-time analytics, according to the December 2002 Database Development Survey of more than 600 database developers performed by Evans Data Corp., Santa Cruz, CA.

Forty-eight percent of companies in the survey provide real-time data feeds to decision makers and nearly one-third of respondents update their analytic databases hourly. The majority of tools are applied to access business performance data, followed by financial analysis and CRM-related analysis tools.

Other findings:

· Fifty-one percent of respondents plan to deploy XML databases within two years.

· Object databases are to experience increases in use, jumping from 27 percent today to 48 percent in two years.

· Microsoft's .NET architecture is to grow, with 45 percent of developers currently trying the new technology and 64 percent expecting to try it within 12 months.
