SurfinGate Works to Stop Viral Intrusions

Finjan Software Inc. has secured a U.S. patent for its SurfinGate 5.0 software. The program is designed to protect Web sites from viral attacks written in computer languages including Java, ActiveX and JavaScript.

SurfinGate scans the actions of code as it enters a site and creates a behavior profile. The system uses the profile to compare the code's behavior to the corporate security policy. Based on that policy, SurfinGate will either allow the applet to pass to the desktop, or block it from reaching its destination.

SurfinGate comes in three components — a server, a database and a management console. The server can act as a plug-in to existing firewalls or as a substitute. The database stores details of scanned code and the corresponding corporate security policy.

Finjan, San Jose, CA, is being marketed at e-commerce sites. The cost of the system was not available. Visit www.finjan.com for more information.
