Supermarket Chain Introduces Online Food Market

Whole Foods Market, Austin, TX, a natural foods supermarket retail chain, has announced it will be launching an e-commerce subsidiary this spring called WholeFoods.com. The site will offer the trademark Whole Foods Market product mix containing close to 6,000 items, with hopes of increasing that number to 10,000 and eventually 20,000.

Initially it will ship nonperishable items to all 50 states, and plans to introduce perishable items gradually. Special discount offers not found in its retail locations will be available at the online store. Whole Foods has decided not to advertise on the Web but, rather, conduct an instore promotion, incentive and awareness campaign.
