*Study: Holiday Sales Growth Down, Order Size Up

While online sales growth slowed this holiday season, average order sizes were up, trade group Shop.org and research firm The Boston Consulting Group said yesterday.

Online retailers’ average order size during the 2000 holiday shopping season grew 27 percent, up from an increase of 8 percent during the 1999 holiday season, Shop.org and BCG said.

Revenue grew 76 percent over last year's holiday season, compared to 300 percent growth last year, they reported.

The results are culled from a survey of 35 online retailers in major gift categories from Nov. 18 to Dec. 21. The findings are part of Shop.org/BCG's “The State of Online Retailing 4.0,” which will be released in April.
