More than three-quarters of online shoppers abandoned a shopping cart during a 90-day period, according to a recent survey by BizRate.com, Los Angeles. Fifty-five percent left their carts prior to checkout, and 32 percent failed to complete the billing and shipping information at the end of a sale.
Expensive shipping and handling are the main reasons behind shopping-cart abandonment, according to 40 percent of the respondents. Another 31 percent said they changed their minds. Twenty-one percent blamed slow-loading pages.
Shoppers abandoned two to three carts, with an estimated $175 worth of items in each cart, according to the study. BizRate conducted a panel survey this summer that drew more than 9,500 respondents.
