Sprint and Interscope Records are delivering exclusively recorded music to cell phones with the debut of the Sprint Music Series.
Each music session includes an exclusive uncut live recording of a three- or four-song performance in audio and video formats along with a brief interview clip. Artists featured on the service include Busta Rhymes, Wolfmother, Mobb Deep, Keane and Dashboard Confessional.
Beyond the free downloads, subscribers can purchase ring tones and full-song downloads from music featured in the series.
The service kicked off June 23 and will continue through the summer for a total of nine sessions.
Sprint Music Series comes during a time of mobile device competition. Cingular Wireless and Apple’s iTunes online music store have partnered on similar offering.
The Sprint Music Series offering was introduced to promote the built-in MP3 players in many of Sprint’s cell phones and to promote the online Sprint Music store, which was launched last October.
