Sportsman's Guide Buys Golf Warehouse for $30 Million

Falconhead Capital, New York, said yesterday that it sold The Golf Warehouse to The Sportsman's Guide Inc., St. Paul, MN. The all-cash transaction is valued at $30 million.

Falconhead is a private investment firm specializing in leisure-, lifestyle-, media- and sports-related businesses. In addition to its Web site, Golf Warehouse began its catalog business in 2002, selling clubs, bags, balls, apparel, shoes, training aids, gifts, memorabilia and accessories. Golf Warehouse is based in Wichita, KS.

Since it was acquired by Falconhead in 1999, Golf Warehouse has established strategic relationships with The Golf Channel, PGA Tour and Amazon.com. The company says it has a customer base of more than 1.5 million golfers. Last year, it reported sales surpassing $40 million and operating income of $1.7 million.

Sportsman's Guide said it expects to increase its current revenue guidance for the year 10 percent to 12 percent. The company sells outdoor clothing, equipment and footwear online and through catalogs.

Thomas Weisel Partners served as financial adviser to Falconhead in the transaction.
