Spamhaus Ordered to Pay $11.7 million to e360insight for Blacklisting

British spam blocking firm Spamhaus was charged with blacklisting marketing firm e360insight’s e-mails to consumers by the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.

Spamhaus was ordered to pay $11.7 million in damages to e360insight ,Chicago, and its CEO, David Linhardt.

The order also stated that Spamhaus is no longer allowed to block, delay, alter or interrput e360insights’s mailings in any way.

The British spam blocker also was ordered to publish an apology stating that Mr. Linhardt and his company are not spammers, according to a copy of the order.

The ruling raises questions as Spamhaus is a Britian-based firm that blocks unsolicited marketing e-mails from Britian -based consumers in a country where spam is illegal. Spam is also illegal in the United States where the trial was heard, but the definition of spam may be different in the two different nations.
