Sony Contest Lets Online Visitors Design Film Poster

To create more buzz for “Resident Evil,” a Sony Pictures action film that hits theaters in April, the Los Angeles studio's Sony Screen Gems marketing label is for the first time allowing online consumers to design the official movie poster.

The promotion requires participants to create up to three designs. They can choose from assets like movie stills, title treatments and the billing block, available at www.resident-evil-the-movie.com.

Submissions can be made online at the movie's site through Dec. 31. Five entries will be chosen next month. Their work will be posted online where visitors can vote on the best poster.

The winning entry, to be announced in mid-January, will get a cash prize, free screening for 100 guests in the winner's hometown and a commemorative copy of the poster.

“Resident Evil” is based on the popular video game of the same name. It stars Milla Jovovich and Michelle Rodriguez. Their characters are leaders of a commando team that breaks into an underground genetics laboratory operated by the Umbrella Corp.
