Soccer Fans Are Goal for Yahoo Web Kiosks

Yahoo Inc. has debuted mobile Internet stations on the streets of Tokyo, Seoul, South Korea, and Miami for use by fans of the 2002 FIFA World Cup.

Accessible for free, the kiosks are wrapped in Yahoo's purple and yellow logo and colors. Notebook computers on board let fans browse news, scores and streaming video highlights from FIFAworldcup.com. Users also have access to regular Yahoo services like mail, messenger and news.

Sunnyvale, CA-based Yahoo produces, markets and operates the 2002 FIFA World Cup Web site and will do the same for the 2006 soccer World Cup.

Kiosk visitors get a free preview of FIFAworldcup.com's FIFA VIP Club, a $19.95 subscription service that offers 2002 FIFA World Cup video highlights.

In addition to the kiosk, Yahoo will dispatch a Yahoo Interactive Soccer Team dressed in Yahoo's trademark colors through the streets of Seoul and Tokyo. Equipped with Web-enabled cell phones and notebook computers, they will offer World Cup updates to fans.
