Slight growth in restaurant industry: Salesgenie.com

In conjunction with the 2007 National Restaurant Show that takes place this week, Salesgenie.com, a service of Omaha, NE-based infoUSA, announced a slight growth in the restaurant industry over the past 12 months and a decline in the number of new restaurants opening in the same period.

Last year 78,064 new establishments opened their doors, compared to 72,995 this year, about a 6 percent decline. Yet the overall industry grew from 654,112 restaurants to 664,311, less than 2 percent for the year.

“More than 60,000 restaurants failing this year alone and the number of new ones also declining, just shows how tough this industry segment is to survive and prosper in,” said Rob Martin, general manager of Salesgenie.com. “Restaurants need to better understand the marketplace and their customers and then market aggressively to them in order to build and maintain a loyal clientele.”

Salesgenie.com offers restaurants accurate and comprehensive data on 14 million U.S. businesses and 210 million consumers, including business credit reports for market research.

Multiple selects allow subscribers to finely tune their prospect criteria to pinpoint their most receptive target markets. Additional features, such as the integrated contact manager and the Salesgenie Lounge, help organize and manage prospects and customers, as well as create more effective direct marketing campaigns.
