DrTango.com, which translates healthcare information for U.S. companies in Latin American markets, is setting its sights on the growing population of Brazilian Internet users.
Connectmed.com, Sao Paulo, Brazil, a Web community for the nation’s health industry, has agreed to translate and localize some of DrTango's content into Portuguese. The alliance will help DrTango bring its clients into an Internet health market that is on the verge of exploding, said Robert Estrada, president of DrTango, Roswell, GA.
Through the agreement, DrTango is outsourcing translation and sales services for Brazil, allowing the company to enter the market without having to hire new staff.
As part of the agreement, Connectmed will translate and market adam.com's electronic medical encyclopedia for marketing in Brazil, Estrada said. DrTango and Connectmed each will get a cut of sales revenue.
DrTango has offices in Spain and Mexico in addition to its corporate headquarters in the United States. Due to limited cash flow and the realization that a large sales force would be needed, the company decided to enter into a partnership with Connectmed rather than open its own office in Brazil, Estrada said.
But DrTango could not afford to wait to enter the market, Estrada said. Brazil represents 40 percent of Latin America's $1.9 trillion economy.
“When it makes sense for us to have our own presence, we'll do it,” Estrada said. “We didn't want to wait and have someone else take market leadership.”
Brazilian Internet users represent about half the Internet market in Latin America, Estrada said. The alliance with Connectmed will enhance DrTango's ability to bring U.S. healthcare companies into that market, he said.
DrTango's goal is to become the leading syndicator of healthcare applications and content in Latin America, Estrada said. Connectmed's primary business is connectivity software, but it will use its Web site, www.connectmed.com.br, to market its own and DrTango's products.
