Shuman Produce kicks off sweepstakes for “Produce for Kids” effort

Shuman Produce launched a sweepstakes and digital campaign to promote its “Produce for Kids” initiative, which encourages healthy eating for children, on June 22. The company is raising awareness of the initiative with e-mail and social media.

The produce marketing and distribution company created most of the campaign in-house, and worked with Wildfire Interactive on the effort’s Facebook application.

“We found that families who cook together and eat together are more healthy,” said Brian Birch, communications officer at Produce for Kids. “We want families to show themselves eating healthy meals together and use social networks to help share these healthy meals.”

Consumers can enter the “Ideal Meals Healthy Chef Sweepstakes” by submitting photos of meals they have prepared through the Produce for Kids Facebook page. Entrants must prepare “ideal meals,” or their own healthy creation using PFK-sponsored products, take a photo of the meal and upload it to the social page.

The “Ideal Meals Healthy Chef Sweepstakes” is part of Produce for Kids’ general “Get Healthy, Give Hope” campaign, which is raising money for Children’s Miracle Network-affiliated hospitals.

More than 35 participating fruit and vegetable growers and retailers will make a donation to local children’s hospitals based on sales of fresh produce items at participating grocery stores.

Acme Markets, Giant Food Stores, Kroger’s Southwest division, Meijer, Price Chopper and Publix Super Markets are using in-store signage to promote the effort.

“The big idea is that families buy fresh produce, and at the same time they are able to make a donation,” added Birch.

The company is seeking submissions through July 31. It will pick winners randomly and announce them August 13. Prizes include kitchen cookware packages, hand-held pocket video cameras and $250 grocery gift cards.
