ShopWiki users create product valentines

ShopWiki is conducting a “I Heart My [Blank]” video contest for St. Valentine’s Day, calling on consumers to make video demos of cherished objects for the chance to win a $500 gift certificate.
Video love letters can be uploaded to www.shopwiki.com  through Feb. 12, and users can vote on favorite clips through Feb. 13. The highest-voted video will be announced on Valentine’s Day, and this winner may choose a certificate from Amazon.com, Best Buy, Target, Overstock.com or Apple.
“The goal is to drive engagement, usage and registrations for ShopWiki in a highly ownable, brand-appropriate and fun way at a time of year that consumers are shopping online,” said Shoshana Winter, shopping expert at ShopWiki, New York. “ShopWiki is essentially about the pursuit of the perfect product, and we all know that finding that perfect product often leads to the kind of love that one might not associate with inanimate objects. But we know it exists, and we thought it was a fun way of getting our community involved in the holiday that was really about the fun of shopping.”
Sample videos feature viewers’ favored products like Converse High Tops and a sushi pen. Users can upload multiple videos, but ShopWiki may reject submissions for any reason.
ShopWiki already features 500 user-generated video reviews of products, in addition to hosting 1,500 buying and gift guides written and edited by shoppers and searching products from 180,000 online stores. Contest entries also will be considered as regular submissions to the ShopWiki video review library, with limited-time compensation of $50 for each accepted video.
ShopWiki is using the promotion to target Valentine’s Day shoppers, whom Ms. Winter said tend to focus on specific categories.
“It is more targeted,” she said. “Not everyone engages in this kind of online shopping as they would during November and December. But it is the most important shopping season in the first quarter of the year, so it’s a natural time for us to engage visitors in our site in a way that is unique to us and highlights what makes our experience unique.”
