ShopNBC launches mobile e-commerce site, iPhone app update

Home shopping network ShopNBC launched a mobile e-commerce site and a new version of its iPhone application on February 10.

ShopNBC developed the on-the-go e-commerce platform with mobile services firm Usablenet. It hosts ShopNBC’s inventory of more than 10,000 items, with categories ranging from health and beauty to jewelry and fashion.

“We want to be able to allow our customers to access our site wherever they are,” said Sharla Wagy, director of online programming development at ShopNBC.

The mobile site will also feature ShopNBC’s “Deal of the Day,” she added.

“Every day, we have a different product that we put out that is our top value, and a lot of customers are anxious to see what that product and the price is,” said Wagy. “Now it is very easy to purchase the product.”

Version two of the network’s iPhone application is optimized for mobile shopping. The first version of the phone debuted last April.

The goal of both mobile properties is acquisition and retention. “We are always looking to have a conversation with our customers. And at the same time, we are always looking to attract new customers,” said Wagy. “The app is an opportunity for people that have never watched our television show but are interested in shopping to discover us.”

Wagy said that ShopNBC plans to add video to its mobile properties this year.
