Shop.com teams up with Make-A-Wish Foundation

SAN JOSE, CA – Online shopping network Shop.com has teamed up with Make-A-Wish Foundation’s Greater Bay Area chapter to acquire new customers while granting the wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses.

The partnership, announced yesterday at the Internet Retailer show, will let shoppers and charity donors go to www.shop.com to purchase and donate products from a particular child’s wish list.

“My job is to give people more reasons to shop with us, so I thought why not make everything on our site available to kids in the Make-A-Wish Foundation,” said Ken Goldstein, chairman/CEO of Shop.com. “It’s a win-win situation.”

The new partnership begins with the wish of Cecilia Bien, an 8-year-old with MPS, who lives in San Francisco. Her wish was to have a soft room with beanbag chairs and cushions where she can be safe and play without supervision. Her wish room includes sensory and interactive toys, videos and games and Disney décor.

Shoppers interested in donating to the charity can visit the www.shop.com and select, purchase and donate an item from a Make-A-Wish chapter’s wish list. These wish lists include backpacks, toys, board games, books, CDs, party supplies, arts and crafts, suitcases and media players.

Both organizations will cross-promote the partnership on their sites in e-mail campaigns, through banner ads and at events. Shop.com will be featured in the Foundation’s “Shop to Help” section.

In support of their partnership, Shop.com has named the Make-A-Wish Foundation its primary charity of choice. Shop.com will donate its commission for every item purchased from a Make-A-Wish chapter’s wish list.

“The financial support for more wishes is amazing and the exposure to a larger audience to participate in fulfilling wishes is great,” said Patricia Wilson, executive director of the Greater Bay Area Make-A-Wish Foundation. “We want to make it easy to fulfill a wish.”
