Shop.com partners with GSI for e-commerce services

Online marketplace site Shop.com partnered with e-commerce services firm GSI to enhance its technology as the holiday season approaches.

GSI, King of Prussia, PA, gives Shop.com retailers a technology platform to power e-commerce sites, access to fulfillment centers to house and ship inventory, and customer service.

“Online retailers are expecting their biggest holiday season yet,” said Ken Goldstein, CEO of Shop.com, Monterey, CA. “GSI retailers provide a rich, full presentation inside our marketplace and provide our shoppers with the information they need to make a smart buying decision.”

To prepare for the holiday season retailers are relying on what has worked in the past, like free shipping promotions and making sure that hot products are visible and kept in stock. Some retailers are even using social networking components to enhance their sites.

“Among the more innovative merchants, they’re introducing Net-rich capabilities like social networking, enabling their customers to talk to one another, read customer – generated reviews, share ideas on similar likes and dislikes and build like-minded communities,” Mr. Goldstein said.

Mr. Goldstein said that today’s retail market is cautiously optimistic with plenty of consumers out there spending, but a lot of competition keeps retailers marketing.

“I think it’s incontrovertible that there will be a share shift from bricks-and-mortar to online shopping as this new generation gets greater control over their spending dollars,” Mr. Goldstein.

“When this new generation grows up, gets jobs, manages their own discretionary income, I believe they will choose the path of convenience and conduct more and more online shopping,” he said.
