Shop.com debuts shopping game

Shop.com unveiled a virtual shopping game yesterday called “Cart Me Away,” which tests players’ shopping expertise and pricing knowledge in exchange for promotions and prizes.

Each day players at www.shop.com are given a daily spending amount and asked to pick the winning combination of products that best fits that day’s installment to the story. There is one right combination of products for each day, but players get three chances to choose the winning match. Winners receive instant shopping offers. Anyone who plays is automatically entered into a weekly drawing for a $1,000 shopping spree.

“Think of it as ‘Sex and the City’ meets the ‘Price is Right,'” said Mondy Beller, senior vice president of marketing for Shop.com. “Today’s busy woman enjoys taking a break from her daily routine by watching her favorite soap opera or shopping for herself. Our Cart Me Away game combines both of those favorite activities together, letting players tap into their shopping expertise while participating in the fun of a virtual soap opera.”

In the game, players add products to Shop.com’s OneCart, which increases awareness of the e-commerce site’s shopping platform.

Each week a new theme is introduced. The game begins, for example, when the character of “your best friend” invites you on an all-expense paid trip to Hawaii. Each day a new piece of the story is added. On Day 2 of the Hawaii week, players learn that an ex-boyfriend is staying at the same resort with his new girlfriend.

Throughout each themed week, players will have a selection of 20 products from which to virtually shop to come up with the day’s winning combination that correctly matches the daily total budget.

The game runs from May 1-26. There is no purchase necessary to enter or win.
