The Sharper Image reported better-than-anticipated first-quarter results yesterday, with catalog sales increasing by a hefty 48 percent.
The San Francisco-based retailer reported catalog sales of $18 million compared with $12.2 million in the year-ago quarter. Internet sales also saw a 15 percent lift to $9.7 million, compared with $8.4 million in the same period last year.
The Sharper Image, however, reported a net loss of $2.8 million, compared with a net income of $105,000 in the year-ago quarter.
Total revenues for the quarter, which ended April 30, increased 15 percent to $69.8 million, from $60.9 million in last year's first quarter. However, comparable-store sales decreased by 1 percent.
