Shapiro Joins Life Development Team

Bill Shapiro joins the Life development team as Time Inc. prepares to launch its once-famed pictorial as a magazine distributed via newspapers in the same fashion as Parade.

This is Shapiro's second stint at development with Time Inc., New York. He led the team that conceived and prototyped All You, a monthly women's magazine that Time Inc. will launch in September in Wal-Mart stores nationwide.

“We want to have our best talent involved in [the] development [of Life],” Norman Pearlstine, longtime editor-in-chief of Time Inc., said in a statement.

The Time Warner Inc.-owned publisher has not assigned a title to Shapiro, who was managing editor of Time Inc. Custom Publishing since 2001. Shapiro will work with Andy Blau, Time general manager and head of the Life development team, and Peter Bauer, most recently president of People magazine.

At Time Inc. Custom Publishing, Shapiro ran the editorial department, producing 28 publications. The division produced more than 3,000 editorial pages a year for clients like McDonald's Corp., Ford Motor Co., Hallmark Cards, Merrill Lynch & Co. and The New York Stock Exchange.

Shapiro joined Time Inc. from Jungle Interactive Media, where he was editorial director. He launched MBA Jungle, a magazine for business school students and young professionals, and also oversaw the creation of JD Jungle, a title for law students and new lawyers.

Prior to that stint, Shapiro was executive editor of Details and Maxim magazines, news features editor at Self and senior editor from 1988 to 1994 at Parenting.
