A tentative agreement on a six-year settlement has been reached by Teamsters Canada and UPS Canada, Mississauga, Ontario, ending the strike that began Monday when 3,800 employees walked out.
The strike was suspended as of yesterday, lasting 24 hours.
Details of the deal were not disclosed. It follows a previous tentative agreement that union members rejected last week.
The Canadian employees' contract expired July 31, and UPS met with the union during the past five months.
“We are pleased to announce an end to the work stoppage that commenced November 22,” said Glenn Rice, president, UPS Canada. “We apologize to our customers for any disruptions. With the immediate reinstatement of service, we are working closely with customers to meet their needs.”
A statement from Teamsters Canada said the union's negotiating team decided that UPS' new offers tabled during the last hours are acceptable. These offers will be submitted to the members shortly.
The strike did not directly affect workers or packages in the United States or other destinations worldwide.
