Say goodbye to trolls: YouTube comments will now be powered through Google+

In one fell swoop, Google has solved the dual problems of discouraging trolls in the YouTube comment section and getting more people to sign up for Google+.

YouTube plans to power comments on its videos through the Google+ platform. With this, it hopes to elevate comments that are meaningful and personalized. Currently, the latest comments on a YouTube video appear at the top of the comments section. Now, using Google +, YouTube will sort through the comments and elevate the ones that are from video creators, people in their Google + circles and users who have engaged conversations.

More importantly, the platform will also introduce new tools to help video creators moderate comments, especially those from awful YouTube trolls.

Here’s additional details from YouTube

Comments you care about move to the top: You’ll see posts at the top of the list from the video’s creator, popular personalities, engaged discussions about the video, and people in your Google+ Circles.

Join the conversation publicly or privately: You can choose to start a conversation so that it is seen by everyone on YouTube and Google+, only people in your Circles or just your bestie. Like Gmail, replies are threaded so you can easily follow conversations.

Better ways to moderate comments: You have new tools to review comments before they’re posted, block certain words or save time by auto-approving comments from certain fans. These can help you spend less time moderating, and more time sharing videos and connecting with your fans.
