Salesforce.com promotes insider to COO

George Hu was promoted to COO of CRM company Salesforce.com effective Nov. 7, the company said in a statement. Hu previously served as EVP of platform, marketing and operations and will continue to report to chairman and CEO Marc Benioff in the newly-created role.

Hu will be responsible for all shared operational functions including global marketing, IT, facilities, security, and Salesforce.com’s platform division. He will continue to serve on the company’s executive leadership team.

Since joining Salesforce.com in 2002, Hu has held various senior-level roles, including VP of product marketing and CMO. Prior to joining the company, he served as product manager at North Point Communications.

A replacement will not be named for Hu’s previous position as he will retain all of his previous duties, a Salesforce.com spokesperson said.

Salesforce.com acquired cloud services company Assistly for $50 million in September. The company reported $546 million in revenue in the second quarter of fiscal 2012, a 38% year-over-year increase and a company record. However, the company saw a slight net loss of $4.3 million during the period.

Salesforce.com refused to provide additional comment.
