Salesforce Winter ’08 goes live

Salesforce.com has released Salesforce Winter ’08, featuring Force.com platform as a service.

The Winter ’08 product expands upon previous Salesforce offerings, adding the Salesforce Content and Salesforce Ideas applications. Winter ’08 also includes the developer preview of Visualforce — the first user interface as a service. Visualforce makes it possible for developers and ISVs to design user applications on demand from anywhere.

Visualforce is housed on the Force.com platform. Force.com, new for Winter ’08, allows on-demand database and business application creation — without relying on software. The Force.com Web Services API allows integration with other applications and data, programmatic access and mash-ups. A workflow engine controls user collaborations, and Apex Code programming language assists users in building complex logic.

Also new to Salesforce Winter ’08 is its provision of optimized support for Apple’s Safari 3 browser.

Salesforce.com, San Francisco, provides on-demand CRM services to more than 35,500 companies worldwide, including Corporate Express, Expedia Corporate Travel, Dow Jones Newswires, SunTrust banks and Kaiser Permanente.
