Sales Rise for Neiman Marcus, J. Jill

The Neiman Marcus Group Inc. said revenues totaled $1.23 billion for the second quarter ended Jan. 28 compared to $1.13 billion in the prior year, the company said yesterday. Comparable revenues increased 6.4 percent during the 13-week period.

For the 26 weeks ended Jan. 28, the Dallas-based multichannel merchant reported revenues totaled $2.21 billion compared to $2.04 billion in the prior year. Comparable revenues increased 7.3 percent during the same period.

J. Jill Net Sales Climb 9.6 Percent

The J. Jill Group Inc., Quincy, MA, said yesterday that net sales for the fourth quarter ended Dec. 31 increased 9.6 percent to $131 million. Comparable-store sales decreased 3 percent. Also, direct segment net sales per 1,000 square inches circulated rose 3 percent.

Net income for the quarter totaled $3 million, or 15 cents per diluted share, versus $2.6 million (13 cents per diluted share) in the prior year.

Net sales for the fiscal year totaled $449.7 million, the company said, up from $434.9 million the prior year. Same-store sales declined 1.2 percent.

Direct segment net sales productivity improved 2.6 percent to 46 cents per 1,000 square inches circulated.

Net income for the fiscal year totaled $1.5 million, versus $8.7 million in the prior year.

The company has entered into a definitive merger agreement with The Talbots Inc. that is expected to close in the second quarter of 2006.
