Saks' Streaming Video Features Christmas in New York

SaksFifthAvenue.com, the retailer’s online e-commerce site, recently launched its first streaming video, “A Holiday in New York,” designed to boost holiday gift sales and to drive traffic to the site.

Hosted by Natalie Cole, the video features music from the singer's greatest hits CD. Customers who are lured to view the video through banner ads on NYTimes.com, Yahoo and AOL will see scenes of holiday revelers in Saks territory on Fifth Avenue, skaters at Rockefeller Center and Saks’ holiday windows.

The video is designed to give Saks customers worldwide “an opportunity to see the hustle and bustle of New York City at Christmas,” a store spokeswoman said yesterday.

Integrated marketing firm Global Fashion Village produced the video and custom interactive video player window for Saks.com. The custom player allows Saks to sign up users and to collect customer contact information through a contest offering a chance to win a trip to Aspen, CO.

The company plans to make the streaming video an annual holiday event and may use the medium in other seasons, depending on the success of the streaming video.
