The Direct Marketing Association, New York, announced yesterday that S. Scott Roberts, a 30-year corporate and marketing communications veteran, has joined the association as vice president of public relations and communications.
According to the DMA, Roberts will lead all public relations and communications for the association, including public affairs, media relations, executive and member communications.
“With the growth of e-commerce and the continuing expansion of traditional direct marketing channels, the DMA must be a proactive voice in communicating the benefits of the information economy to the media, consumers, and government and opinion leaders,” said H. Robert Wientzen, president/CEO of the DMA. “Scott's success in leading corporate and industry image programs and his global leadership in a high-profile industry make him the right person to help fulfill our mission to create and sustain a positive business environment for direct and interactive marketers.”
Since 1995, Roberts has served as executive vice president for Marketing Discoveries Inc., an agency in Carlstadt, NJ, where he provided strategic and tactical direction for the agency and its clients. He also led corporate image campaigns, oversaw programs to launch new products and promote mature ones, and oversaw issues management. He also directed successful efforts to communicate with the public, as well as with the investment and business communities.
From 1980 to 1995, Roberts was director of international public relations, public affairs and marketing communications for American Cyanamid Co., Wayne, NJ. As senior public relations, public affairs and marketing communications counsel and spokesman for six corporate divisions, representing $3 billion in annual sales, Roberts led global communications efforts on corporate and industry image, product launches, mature products, licensing and acquisition campaigns, and policy issues affecting the company. He worked extensively with the media, the public, customers, government officials, opinion leaders and global organizations.
Roberts’ career has also included account positions with Lewis & Gilman, a public relations agency in Philadelphia, and Edward Gottlieb & Associates, a New York-based agency. He also worked as a communications associate with Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. in New York.
Roberts, an alumnus of The City College of New York, resides in Wyckoff, NJ.
