Rubin Response President, Founder Dies of Heart Attack at 65

After working his full day at the company he founded, William S. Rubin, president of Rubin Response Services Inc., died of a massive heart attack Wednesday at his Long Grove, IL, home. He was 65.

His wife, Arlene Rubin, and daughters Judy and Linda Rubin work for the firm and informed employees yesterday. Daughter Lori (Eytan) DeKalo and grandchildren David and Shelley also survive him.

“Beyond his accomplishments in the industry, Bill built wonderful friendships with customers, clients, peers and employees,” said Ken Kretschmar, senior vice president at Rubin Response.

Rubin founded the Schaumburg, IL, list management and brokerage firm with his wife in 1974 from his home. Arlene Rubin said the firm would continue to operate, according to a company spokesperson.

Before founding Rubin Response, he spent 13 years “on the mailer side,” as he was fond of saying. He served as a senior executive with hands-on marketing responsibilities for Allied Radio, Aldens, National Bellas Hess and Lee Wards. Rubin held an MBA and bachelor's degree in marketing from Northwestern University.

The offices of Rubin Response are closed today in honor of Rubin. Donations in his name can be made to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, DC. They can be reached at ushmm.org or 202/488-2642.
