R.R. Donnelley to Acquire Spencer Press

R.R. Donnelley & Sons Co. signed a definitive agreement to acquire catalog printer Spencer Press Inc., Chicago-based Donnelley said yesterday.

The 65-year-old Spencer Press produces catalogs, press-pasted booklets, freestanding inserts and self-mailers. Its operations include a 400,000-plus-square-foot facility in Wells, ME.

“Spencer Press is an admired brand whose geographic match with R.R. Donnelley's catalog resources could not be better,” John R. Paloian, R.R. Donnelley group president, publishing & retail services, said in a statement. “The flexibility provided by the addition of Spencer Press will allow us to more quickly achieve our announced master plan to expand and refurbish our domestic platform.”

The deal lets R.R. Donnelley create cross-selling opportunities and offer catalog marketers the broadest array of printed products and related services, R.R. Donnelley CEO Mark A. Angelson said in the statement.

Financial details were not disclosed. The deal is to close in the fourth quarter.
