Rosalind Resnick Recieves Mal Dunn Leadership Award

NEW YORK–Rosalind Resnick, founder of e-mail marketing firm NetCreations Inc., was named the recipient of the Mal Dunn Leadership Award at a Sept. 14th Direct Marketing Club of New York luncheon at the Yale Club.

The award, named after pioneer direct marketer Mal Dunn, is given each year to an individual who exhibits a tireless dedication to the DMCNY and extraordinary leadership and devotion to education in the field of direct marketing. Honorees are chosen by the DMCNY’s Council of Past Presidents.

The award was renamed the Mal Dunn Leadership Award in 1994; formerly, it was the DMNCY Leadership Award. P ast recipients include Jonah Gitlitz, Dave Florence, Ed Burnett, H. Robert Wientzen, Gene Del Polito, and JoAnne Monfradi Dunn.

Ms. Resnick is currently founder/CEO of New York-based Axxess Business Centers Inc. a strategic consulting, business plan development and outsourced financial and marketing services for startups and emerging businesses. She also founded New York Double R Ventures LLC, which offers advisory, consulting and private equity investing services to startups and emerging businesses.

In accepting the award, Ms. Resnick joked that today “it’s not easy to be a direct marketer.”

In fact, when she received the e-mail from the club alerting to the honor she “deleted it because I thought it was spam.”

Then, the club followed up with a phone call, Ms. Resnick told the caller to “take her off the list because she thought [the caller] was a telemarketer.”

While serving as NetCreations’ CEO/president, Ms. Resnick pioneered the concept of 100 percent opt-in e-mail marketing in 1996 and spearheaded the company’s successful IPO in 1999.

“I still believe very strongly that one day we will figure out a way to get permission-based double-opt-in past the spam filters,” Ms. Resnick said.
