Return Path Testing E-Mail List Cleaning Service

Return Path Inc., which offers an e-mail change of address service, is beta-testing PureList, an e-mail list cleaning service, the company said this week.

The service can identify faulty and bounced e-mail addresses — including those blocked by Internet service providers — and restore addresses, the company said. It is expected to be available early in the second quarter.

“Every list owner has to confront the inherent instability and volatility of e-mail addresses,” said Matt Blumberg, Return Path's CEO. “Because so much can go wrong with your e-mail list, we believe the industry needs a reliable, experienced service bureau dedicated to e-mail list hygiene.”

The New York-based company said PureList will provide marketers with an immediate solution to e-mail database corruption. The new service can identify and classify bounced e-mails with 99 percent accuracy, the company said, because it compares addresses against its database of known undeliverable addresses.

The service also can identify ISPs that are blocking company e-mail messages, standardize e-mail formats, and correct and restore multiple forms of undeliverable e-mail messages.
