Report: Two Former GNC Execs Rented Unauthorized Names

Two former General Nutrition Centers executives who apparently weren't authorized to do so were advertising for rent lists of names of GNC customers, according to an Associated Press report yesterday.

As recently as last week, a Web site run by former GNC executive Jack Seemiller advertised lists of thousands of GNC Gold Card members' names and addresses for $499, AP said.

Also, two businesses run by Tom Dowd, who left GNC in 2001 but who has since been rehired, advertised GNC Gold Card names at $299 for 5,000 and $499 for 10,000, AP said.

The names were reportedly advertised as vitamin and health supplements buyers.

Seemiller acquired the names through a relationship with GNC's suppliers, AP reported.

However, Seemiller apparently found few takers for his offer, according to AP.

“I thought it would be a good hit, and it wasn't. It was such a flop I didn't pursue any more of them,” Seemiller said.

Mokrynski & Associates manages GNC's Gold Card list. A call was put into Mokrynski late yesterday, but apparently GNC's list manager had left for the day.
