Visa was ranked as the most preferred credit card by disabled consumers over MasterCard in a report released yesterday from iCan, a Detroit solutions and services company for people with disabilities.
The “Fall 2002 Heidi Van Arnem Disability Consumer Research Report” identifies current consumer preferences and patterns in the disability community. Heidi Van Arnem, a Michigan entrepreneur who died in 2001, was active in the business and disability community for almost two decades and founded the company.
Data was gathered from 1,519 individuals with varying disabilities. The survey consisted of 75 questions in addition to respondents' personal information. The report found that Visa was the most preferred credit card over MasterCard by a 2-to-1 margin, followed by Discover and American Express.
Other market data identified in the report:
· Ford ranked as the preferred automotive nameplate, and domestic nameplates accounted for more than 80 percent of vehicles owned by people with disabilities.
· 94.2 percent of respondents reported owning a cellular phone while fewer than one-quarter use PDAs.
· AT&T ranked as the leading provider of long-distance service from the home while Verizon was rated the cellular phone service provider of choice.
