Report: 37% of U.S. Workers Go Online Regularly

More than 37 percent of working Americans go online regularly at the office, a new report by eMarketer for The Wall Street Journal Online said.

These online users are said to number 50 million consumers and be an important audience for advertisers. More than 70 percent of at-work online users have a college degree or higher, and about half have household incomes of $75,000 or more.

At-work Internet users are said to spend more time online than at-home-only users, according to the report, “An Elephant in the Room: The Online At-Work Audience.” Sixty percent of consumer online dollars are now spent in the office.

The report also found that 86 percent of at-work Internet users have broadband access at their workplace. Large companies employ 38 percent of at-work Internet users, while small businesses employ 40 percent.

The 118-page report has 110 charts and data compiled from sources like the Department of Commerce, GartnerG2, Forrester Research and comScore. It is available for free from eMarketer.com.
