ReplayTV Reworks Business Plan, Cuts 130 Employees

ReplayTV, a manufacturer of interactive video recorders for consumers, will license its technology to set-top box providers and other television-related companies, instead of selling directly to consumers, the company announced yesterday.

As part of the company's shift in direction, it also cut 130 employees, half of its staff, including Kim LeMasters, former chairwoman/CEO of ReplayTV, Mountain View, CA. Anthony Wood, founder of ReplayTV, will assume her responsibilities.

The software packages that the company will license include home media servers, home video clients, content distribution servers and targeted ad servers. The software is expected to appeal to personal computer manufacturers, telephony companies and set-top box manufacturers for cable, satellite and terrestrial operators.

The company said it would continue to provide services for consumers who already own its digital recorders.
