Reliant Energy to Offer Electronic Bill Presentment and Payment

Reliant Energy, Houston, an electricity and gas provider, said yesterday it will offer electronic bill payment and presentment services to its customers through billserv.com, Inc. San Antonio, an electronic bill presentment and payment service bureau.

Reliant Energy, which had $15.3 billion in annual revenue last year and assets totaling more than $26 billion, serves 1.6 million residential and business customers in the Houston area.

Reliant, which signed a three-year agreement billserv.com, becomes billserv.com's largest energy partner.

As a result of the agreement, Reliant’s customers will be able to eliminate their paper statement by viewing and paying their electric and gas bills online. Customers may choose to view and pay bills from Reliant Energy's web site using billserv.com's EBPP system, or from a variety of front-ends such as banks, portals and aggregation sites including CheckFree, TransPoint, Bank of America and at www.bills.com, billserv.com's own consumer bill payment portal.

Reliant Energy's customers will also receive an e-mail notification when a statement may be reviewed online and will have the ability to view and pay bills where and when they want from anywhere in the world 24 hours a day with an Internet connection. After a brief implementation phase, Reliant Energy’s EBPP system is expected to be available for customers in July.

“We are pleased to offer the convenience of EBPP to assist our customers at home or on the road,” said Tom Standish, president of Reliant Energy HL&P/Entex. “Offering our customers a wide range of bill viewing and payment options that best fit their diverse needs is one of many new Internet efforts through which Reliant Energy is increasing our level of customer care. Our relationship with billserv.com is a significant milestone in accomplishing this objective.”
