Reed completes North American shift with Canadian trade shows sale

Reed Elsevier, parent of Reed Exhibitions, said it has sold its Canadian industrial and manufacturing trade show portfolio in two different transactions.

The deals mark the final divestiture in Reed’s strategic alignment of its business operations in North America, which was initiated earlier this year when the company sold its U.S. manufacturing and industrial portfolio to Canon Communications LLC.

As a result, the company plans to now commit itself to focusing on four specific areas of growth: hearth and home; security; luxury and lifestyle; and life science/healthcare.

Reed said Dec. 5 the Society of Manufacturing Engineers has purchased several Canadian tradeshows including Plant Maintenance & Design Engineering; Western Manufacturing Technology Show; Canadian Manufacturing Technology Show and Advanced Manufacturing Expo.

The Society also purchased Montreal Manufacturing Technology; Southwest Ontario Industrial Show and Canadian Manufacturing Week.

Vance Publishing has purchased Woodworking Machinery & Supply Expo and SIBO.

Reed Exhibitions retains its Canadian retail events in jewelry, publishing, gold and info security. It also added the National Hardware Show Canada this year.

The news follows Monday’s announcement that Reed, New York, would acquire online lead generation firm BuyerZone.com Inc. in a move intended to accelerate its online growth.
