RealNetworks, DreamWorks Unite to Provide Clips of Crowe's ‘Almost Famous’

RealNetworks Inc., a media-delivery service on the Internet, and DreamWorks Pictures launched a streaming video Web site last week to promote the new Cameron Crowe film “Almost Famous,” which opened Friday at The Toronto International Film Festival. The film is set in 1973 and chronicles the coming of age of 15-year-old William, a rock ‘n’ roll music fan who is inspired by some of the seminal bands of the time.

The collaboration is the first time RealNetworks has teamed with a major motion-picture studio to create, manage and maintain a streaming video Web site to promote the realease of a film. The RealNetworks-DreamWorks site, located at www.almostfamous.com, features exclusive streaming video interviews with Cameron Crowe and “Almost Famous” stars Billy Crudup, Kate Hudson and newcomer Patrick Fugit, as well as minitrailers of the film, behind-the-scenes footage, and full-length songs from the film’s fictitious band, Stillwater.

The “Almost Famous” Web site is an extension of RealNetworks' successful Film.com site, whose Top Ten Clicks feature highlights popular movie trailers, films, routines, comedians, and even reviews by children.
